Governor extends statewide shelter in place order for additional week

Governor Tate Reeves extended the state wide shelter in place order for an additional week on Thrusday. The additional week will start Monday at 8 a.m.

He issued the following, as well as holding a press conference.

I have to extend the shelter-in-place order for seven more days, while taking some new steps to help Mississippians mentally and financially. We are easing the brakes on “non-essential” businesses.

I wanted to announce that we can all ease up and re-open today, but we can’t. We are still in the eye of the storm.

Reeves says he wants businesses to sell their products safely to urge people to shop with small local businesses and to keep people away from big box stores. All non-essential businesses will be able to do curbside and delivery sales. This includes clothing stores, gift shops, florists and more businesses covered by the order.
