Corinth Steamrolls Previously Undefeated North Pontotoc
Corinth left little doubt about who controls the Region 1-4A race Friday night, steamrolling previously unbeaten North Pontotoc 52-6 in a statement win at home.
The Warriors’ dominance was complete on both sides of the ball. Running back Pat Crump delivered the night’s biggest blow—a 56-yard touchdown run immediately after the Vikings had finally scored to cut the deficit to 24-6 early in the third quarter. That sprint erased any hope of a comeback and set the tone for a runaway second half.
Crump finished with 128 yards rushing, leading a Corinth ground game that piled up more than 400 yards. Jamir Barton added 96 yards and a touchdown, Preston Young tallied 86 yards including a 35-yard score, and C.J. Roby scored twice while adding 61 yards. Sophomore kicker Griffin Carmichiel stayed perfect on the night—hitting a 30-yard field goal, converting all seven extra points, and blasting eight of nine kickoffs for touchbacks.
Defensively, the Warriors were just as sharp. They held North Pontotoc to 50 rushing yards and forced three turnovers, with interceptions by Preston Crump and Barton, plus a fumble recovery from Xavier Young. Corinth’s relentless pass rush sacked Vikings quarterback Drew Winfun five times and limited an offense that had averaged over 30 points per game to a single touchdown.
By the fourth quarter, Corinth’s reserves were on the field and both bands were playing. The Warriors improved to 4-2 overall (2-0 in region play) and will travel to Tishomingo County next week. North Pontotoc, now 5-1 (1-1), will try to regroup against West Bolivar.
