Grandfather Arrested After Altercation at Alcorn Central High School

Authorities arrested a 74-year-old man after a confrontation on the campus of Alcorn Central High School Monday morning, according to the Alcorn County Sheriff’s Office.

Officials say the incident began when a student’s grandfather arrived on campus without authorization to meet the student. A school resource officer approached the man, and the situation quickly escalated.

During the encounter, the grandfather allegedly attempted to pull out a firearm. The officer was able to stop him and place him under arrest.

The sheriff’s office identified the man as Gerry Whitehurst, 74, of Alcorn County. Investigators have charged Whitehurst with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and assault on an officer.

No injuries were reported, and the investigation is ongoing.
