Head Start Programs in Alcorn County to Re-open Under PRVO
More families in Alcorn County will soon gain access to expanded educational resources as Pearl River Valley Opportunity, Inc. (PRVO) extends its Head Start program into the region. The move is part of a major expansion that will introduce services to 11 new counties across Mississippi.
Head Start provides comprehensive early childhood education, nutrition, health, and family support programs designed to give children a stronger start in life. By adding Alcorn County to its service area, PRVO is opening doors for local families who may not have previously had access to these critical resources.
The announcement comes during PRVO’s 60th anniversary year. Since its founding in 1965, the Columbia-based nonprofit has built a reputation as one of Mississippi’s leading community action agencies. Beyond Head Start, the organization operates a variety of programs including housing assistance, energy assistance (LIHEAP), senior services, and community development initiatives.
“Alcorn County is a wonderful community, and we are excited to invest in its future through our Head Start expansion,” said PRVO Executive Director Thomas Morris. “Every child deserves the chance to thrive, and we want to ensure families here have the tools and support they need.”
With this addition, PRVO now serves families in a growing network of counties across the state, reinforcing its mission to break cycles of poverty and strengthen local communities.
