Meridian Police Search for Sunday Shooting Suspect
The officers with Meridian Police Department are involved in a search for the suspect in a shooting from Sunday afternoon. The incident that took place left two people injured. One of the two injured was airlifted to a hospital in Jackson.
The suspect in Sunday’s shooting has been identifed as David Alexander. Alexander, age thirty two, was described by Acting Captain Dareall Thompson as 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighing around 180 pounds. Alexander, originally from Hattiesburg, has brown eyes.
According to Deborah Naylor Young, Meridian Police Chief, the report of the shooting was made around 5:15 p.m. in the 2500 Block of 36th Street. Metro Ambulance transported both victims to a local hospital. One of the victims was air-lifted for more extensive treatment, while the other is in stable connection and sustained no life threatening injuries.
The MPD SWAT team was activated due to information that stated the suspect was possibly barricaded in the home where the shooting took place. Young stated that the home was inspected and there was no evidence of harm to the community. “This was an isolated incident,” Young said. “Everyone knew each other.”
Meridian Police Department will continue to investigate the matter. Further updates on Alexander and his location will be released as it becomes available.
