Mississippi Joins Great American State Fair Initiative as Part of America250 Celebration

Jackson, Miss. – Governor Tate Reeves and Commissioner of Agriculture and Commerce Andy Gipson announced today that Mississippi will officially participate in the Great American State Fair initiative, a national challenge launched by President Donald J. Trump to honor America’s upcoming 250th anniversary.

The announcement was made during a press conference held at the Mississippi Trade Mart in Jackson, where state leaders outlined their vision for making the Mississippi State Fair the most patriotic in the nation.

The Great American State Fair is a cornerstone of the America250 campaign — a nonpartisan, nationwide celebration commemorating the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The initiative encourages each state to showcase its heritage and patriotism through local fairs and festivals, culminating in a national festival on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. during the week of July 4, 2026.

“Over the next year, leading up to July 4, 2026, we are going to celebrate the role Mississippi has played in America’s exceptional story,” said Governor Reeves. “From the first successful human lung transplant to the birthplace of America’s music and as the heartbeat of the Civil Rights Movement, Mississippi has been at the forefront of dynamic change and influence on our great nation.”

Governor Reeves also announced the official launch of the America250 Mississippi Commission, which will guide the state’s participation and programming throughout the year. The commission is co-chaired by First Lady Elee Reeves, Lynn Hosemann, and Jolynn White. Visit Mississippi Executive Director Rochelle Hicks and Commission Development Director Nancy Carpenter will also serve in key leadership roles.

“This is more than a celebration—it’s a statement,” said Commissioner Andy Gipson. “Mississippi will proudly lead the way in showcasing American values, traditions, and achievements through our annual State Fair, which is already known as one of the best in the country.”

The America250 initiative will include events, educational opportunities, and commemorations across the country through December 2026. Each state’s commission is responsible for planning and implementing local efforts that reflect its unique role in the American story.
