GLEN, Miss. — A student was taken into custody Tuesday morning after a handgun was discovered inside a vehicle on the campus of Alcorn Central High School, according to the Alcorn School District.
District officials said they received a tip regarding a potential safety concern involving a vehicle coming onto campus. School and district personnel immediately responded and approached the vehicle as soon as it entered school grounds.
After searching the vehicle, officials located a handgun inside.
The firearm was immediately seized, and the student was taken into custody by the Alcorn County Sheriff’s Department. Authorities have not released the student’s name or additional details, citing the ongoing investigation.
District officials said the situation is believed to be an isolated incident based on the information available at this time. Because the matter is now being handled by law enforcement, no further details have been released.
School leaders expressed appreciation for the swift response of school staff and law enforcement, noting that their actions helped ensure the continued safety of students and staff.
