Wilson McDonald Surpasses 2,000 Points as Alcorn Central Bears Defeat Holly Springs Hawks 65-53
GLEN, Miss. — There are scorers, and then there are buckets.
Alcorn Central senior Wilson McDonald continues to cement his legacy as one of the most prolific scorers in Mississippi high school basketball. On Tuesday night, February 17, McDonald surpassed the 2,000-career-point milestone as the Bears secured a 65-53 win over Holly Springs.
McDonald entered the night already leading the state in scoring, averaging nearly 27 points per game this season. He added another strong performance against the Hawks, helping guide Alcorn Central to a double-digit victory while reaching a career benchmark few players ever achieve.
According to career statistics, McDonald has been a consistent offensive force throughout his time at Alcorn Central. His ability to score at all three levels — attacking the rim, knocking down mid-range jumpers and stretching the floor from beyond the arc — has made him one of the most difficult matchups in the state.
The 2,000-point mark places McDonald in elite company among Mississippi high school players and underscores a career built on production, durability and relentless scoring ability.
Alcorn Central controlled much of Tuesday’s contest, using balanced scoring and defensive pressure to hold Holly Springs at bay. With McDonald leading the way, the Bears improved their position heading into the stretch run of the season.
For McDonald, the milestone represents more than just numbers. It reflects years of work in the gym, countless shots put up after practice and a commitment to elevating his team.
With postseason play approaching, one thing is clear: if Alcorn Central makes a deep run, it will likely be fueled by the same thing that has carried them all season — Wilson McDonald getting buckets.
