Arctic air, gusty winds bring freezing conditions to Mid-South
Gusty north winds are pushing arctic air into the Mid-South this evening, according to weather reports. Temperatures are mainly in the 20s to mid-30s, but wind chill readings are much lower.
Most of the region is experiencing wind chills in the teens and 20s. Some areas north of Interstate 40 are already seeing wind chill values in the single digits, the National Weather Service said.
Officials advise residents to take precautions against the cold, including dressing warmly and limiting time outdoors. The cold snap is expected to persist into the coming days.
