Flooding has caused significant disruptions across south Mississippi, with authorities urging residents to stay off the roads if possible.
On Highway 49 in Stone County near Red Creek Market, the Mississippi Highway Patrol has opened contraflow lanes on the southbound side, allowing one lane for northbound traffic and one for southbound traffic, according to the patrol.
Many other roadways across the region remain impacted by floodwaters. Officials advise drivers to avoid unnecessary travel, stay weather aware, and never attempt to drive through flooded roads.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation as heavy rain persists in the area.
