Floodwaters Can Be Deadly, Weather Service Warns

The National Weather Service in Memphis, Tennessee, warns residents about the dangers of floodwaters. Officials say just 6 inches of fast-moving water can knock over an adult and carry them away, while 12 inches can move a small car.

They advise the public to heed the warning: “Turn Around Don’t Drown.”

The message is part of ongoing efforts during Severe Weather Awareness Week in Tennessee to promote safety and preparedness for severe weather events, including floods.
