Former Southeast Greene Water Authority Manager Arrested for Embezzlement
Jackson, Miss. — Deborah Harper, the former office manager of the Southeast Greene Water Authority, was arrested Tuesday on charges of embezzlement. The Mississippi Office of the State Auditor announced the arrest, stating Harper allegedly stole funds for personal use.
According to authorities, Harper received cash payments from new customer water agreement forms and converted the funds for her own benefit. She also reportedly used water payments from other account holders to pay water debts for herself and her daughter.
State Auditor Shad White said his office will continue to work closely with prosecutors to pursue cases of financial misconduct. Harper faces potential fines of up to $25,000 and a sentence of up to 10 years in prison if convicted.
The Auditor’s Office emphasized that all individuals arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court. People are encouraged to report suspected fraud through the Auditor’s website or by calling 1-800-321-1275 during business hours.
