Freezing rain has begun across much of northeast Mississippi, according to weather officials. The conditions are expected to worsen as the storm system moves through the region.

The National Weather Service warns that the freezing rain will intensify soon across the entire area highlighted in pink on weather maps. Several metropolitan areas are marked in white.

Transportation officials have identified I-22 from Holly Springs to Tupelo as an area of highest concern, urging drivers to exercise caution and stay updated on road conditions.

Emergency agencies advise residents to prepare for potential travel disruptions and icy conditions in the coming hours.
