Heavy Rain, Flooding Expected in Mississippi as Tropical Storm Arthur Remnants Move East

The National Weather Service has issued a warning of continued heavy rain across Mississippi as the remnants of Tropical Storm Arthur drift eastward. Forecasters predict up to 3 inches of additional rainfall, with locally higher amounts possible.

Many parts of the state have already experienced flash flooding, and further rain is likely to worsen conditions. This could impact roads and structures, creating hazardous travel conditions.

The storm system is also capable of producing damaging wind gusts, especially during the early afternoon to evening hours, officials said. River flooding is also expected to increase, posing additional risks.

Authorities urge residents to avoid flooded areas, never drive around barricades, and identify alternate routes in case of road closures. The message from officials is clear: “Remember to turn around, don’t drown.”
