Inmate found unresponsive at Alcorn County Jail, pronounced dead
Alcorn County Jail staff found an inmate unresponsive during routine cell checks Tuesday morning around 6:30 a.m., according to sheriff’s officials. The inmate was housed alone in a single cell at the time.
Jail staff immediately began CPR and called for medical assistance. Magnolia EMS responded to the scene and pronounced the inmate dead, authorities said.
Alcorn County deputies and investigators secured the area as the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation was called in to conduct an independent investigation. The county coroner will transport the body to the State Crime Lab for an autopsy, officials said.
More information will be released as it becomes available, authorities added.
