Interstate 22 and Interstate 55 reopen in northern Mississippi amid winter conditions

All lanes of Interstate 22 from Red Banks to the Tennessee border are now open, according to the Mississippi Department of Transportation. The section of I-55 north of Como has also reopened.

Despite the reopenings, icy conditions, debris, and ongoing work remain in the areas. MDOT advises against travel on either route unless absolutely necessary.

Multiple counties across northern Mississippi continue to report ice on roads and bridges. These counties include Alcorn, Benton, Bolivar, Calhoun, Coahoma, DeSoto, Grenada, Lafayette, Leflore, Marshall, Panola, Prentiss, Quitman, Sunflower, Tallahatchie, Tate, Tippah, Tishomingo, Tunica, Washington, and Yalobusha.

Drivers are urged to check live road conditions via the MDOT Traffic App or visit MDOTtraffic.com. Emergency travel is recommended only in affected areas due to winter weather hazards.
