MDWFP reminds hunters to prioritize safety during youth turkey season opening
The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks (MDWFP) announced that youth turkey season opens tomorrow, emphasizing the importance of safety during the hunt. The agency encourages experienced hunters to share their knowledge and demonstrate proper safety procedures to young hunters.
MDWFP highlights the SAFETY acronym to promote safe hunting habits: Set out with working equipment and protective gear; Always keep the safety on until ready to fire; Fire only when sure of the target and beyond; Enter a hunter education course; Tell someone your plans; and Youth should always hunt safely. The department stresses that safety should take precedence over a successful hunt.
Officials advise hunters to take a hunter education class before heading into the woods. More information is available on the department’s website. The reminder comes as a part of ongoing efforts to ensure safe and responsible hunting practices for all participants.
