Mid-South braces for potential winter storm as models vary on snowfall amounts

The Mid-South is likely to experience winter weather this weekend, according to the National Weather Service in Memphis, Tennessee. However, snowfall projections vary widely among different weather models, making precise forecasts difficult.

Forecasters attribute the uncertainty to three key ingredients that could influence the storm’s development. These include a large upper low off the California coast bringing moisture, an upper-level disturbance over western Canada affecting how much moisture reaches the region, and Arctic air from northern Canada.

Models disagree most on the first two ingredients, which could mean the difference between as little as 2 inches of snow or as much as 15 inches. There is also uncertainty about how far north freezing rain might fall. Despite these differences, meteorologists agree on one point: it will be cold.

As the storm system evolves over the coming days, authorities say more specific information will become available. Residents are advised to prepare for potential winter weather and monitor updates from local weather offices.
