Mississippi advises residents to stay home amid icy conditions

Parts of northern Mississippi are experiencing hazardous icy conditions, according to the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency. Officials strongly recommend residents remain at home if possible.

For those who need to go out, the agency provided safety tips. Pedestrians are advised to walk slowly with short steps, staying flat-footed and steady to avoid slips. Drivers are urged to reduce speed, avoid sudden movements, skip cruise control, and maintain ample distance from other vehicles.

Ice can be difficult to see and even harder to stop on, officials said. They emphasized the importance of taking time and staying alert if travel is necessary. The Mississippi Department of Transportation offers updates on road conditions.

Residents are encouraged to stay safe and warm during the winter weather. The agency’s message is to stay put if possible and exercise caution if venturing outside.
