Mississippi Delta biologists conduct aerial waterfowl surveys from November to January
Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks biologists take to the skies from November through January to conduct aerial waterfowl surveys across the Mississippi Delta.
The surveys involve flying over randomly selected transects, providing an index of waterfowl numbers and habitat use. These counts do not record every bird but offer a reliable measure of waterfowl activity for management purposes.
Hunters and conservationists depend on this data to identify key wetland habitats and monitor how weather and habitat changes affect waterfowl populations. The survey results are available on the department’s website.
