The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks (MDWFP) recently spread 300 tons of agricultural lime into Shadow Lake at Roosevelt State Park. The effort aims to improve water quality and support aquatic life.
Lime helps balance the lake’s water chemistry and enhances the effectiveness of nutrients. This encourages the growth of phytoplankton, small algae that form the base of the lake’s food web.
These algae provide vital food for young fish during their early life stages, leading to stronger fish recruitment and healthier populations. The result is better growth, more fish, and improved fishing opportunities over time, MDWFP said.
