Mississippi EMA Provides Guidance on Damage Reporting, Generators, and Shelters

Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) has issued guidelines for residents following recent severe winter weather. Damage reports should first be directed to county emergency management officials or submitted through MEMA’s online tool, according to agency officials.

MEMA spokespersons said damage reports are currently in the damage-reporting phase, with a focus on addressing immediate needs. Residents can report damage via the agency’s website or contact their county EMA directly. Officials advised residents to check local county websites or social media pages for the latest shelter information, as operations are managed locally.

The agency acknowledged widespread power outages and said it is securing generators solely to support critical infrastructure, such as hospitals, water treatment plants, and emergency services. MEMA clarified that these generators are not available for individual or residential use.

Regarding shelter availability, MEMA provided a list of currently reported shelters, including locations in Adams and Alcorn counties. Residents are urged to verify shelter operations through local channels for the most current information, as shelter status may change frequently.

Officials emphasized the importance of following local updates and using available resources to stay safe during the ongoing response efforts.
