Mississippi Highway Patrol Diverts Traffic Due to Dangerous Road Conditions

Mississippi transportation officials announced traffic diversions on several highways Thursday due to hazardous road conditions caused by ice. The Mississippi Highway Patrol and Commercial Transportation Enforcement Division are rerouting traffic from Interstate 55 northbound at Exit 243 in Batesville to the Tennessee state line.

In addition, traffic on Interstate 22 westbound at Exit 21 in Red Banks will be diverted to the Tennessee border. Eastbound traffic on Interstate 22/U.S. Highway 78 will be closed at Exit 1 (Craft Road), with authorities urging travelers to avoid the area.

Officials warned that bypassing barricades or traveling through these areas could be dangerous. The right lane on the northbound side of Interstate 55 is scheduled to reopen at 8 a.m. Thursday, allowing for some traffic flow.

Authorities emphasized that travelers should stay informed about road conditions and exercise caution in affected areas as crews continue to work on ice removal.
