Mississippi officials have submitted an official request for federal disaster assistance following the winter weather event that occurred from Jan. 23 to Jan. 27, according to the governor’s office.
The move marks a critical step in the process of securing aid for residents affected by the storm. If approved by the Federal Emergency Management Agency and President Joe Biden, applications for assistance will open to eligible residents and businesses.
The governor’s office said it will provide updates throughout the process to keep the public informed. No timeline has been set for a decision yet.
