Mississippi student earns high school equivalency diploma and CNA credential simultaneously

A 17-year-old student at Northeast Mississippi Community College has earned her high school equivalency diploma while simultaneously completing a certified nursing assistant (CNA) program, thanks to support from Accelerate Mississippi.

Alannah Bean began caring for her great-grandmother at age 12, an experience she describes as formative. Now, she is preparing to take her licensure exam in May, with plans to work as a CNA and pursue a nursing degree.

Bean enrolled in Northeastโ€™s Adult Education program in September and participated in the Integrated Education and Training program, which combines high-demand workforce training with HSE instruction. Her instructor, Dana Chapman, noted her noticeable growth and strong work ethic during the CNA course.

Her success is part of a broader initiative funded by Accelerate Mississippi, which allows students to earn their high school diploma while gaining industry-recognized credentials. The program aims to prepare students for immediate employment or further education, opening pathways to long-term career success.

Alannah Bean’s story highlights the impact of combined education and workforce training programs. Students interested in earning their HSE diploma can find registration information on the collegeโ€™s website.
