Funds generated through the Mississippi Wild Turkey Stamp, hunting licenses, and federal excise taxes under the Pittman-Robertson Act are reinvested into habitat improvement, research, and monitoring programs, officials said. These resources support long-term turkey management efforts statewide.
Hunters also assist in population management by reporting harvests through the Game Check system and practicing responsible harvesting. They are encouraged to participate in the Spring Gobbler Hunting Survey to aid in monitoring turkey populations.
Habitat stewardship is another vital component. Hunters conduct prescribed burns, manage timber for wildlife habitat, and establish food plots to support turkey populations. Officials emphasize that hunters are partners in conservation, helping ensure wild turkeys remain a vibrant part of Mississippi’s outdoor heritage.
