Mississippi Turkey Season Opens March 14, Officials Announce

The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks has announced that turkey season will open March 14 for the general public, following a youth season starting March 7.

Hunters are advised to prepare now by purchasing a Wild Turkey Stamp or Exempt Turkey Game Check. These can be bought at licensed vendors or through the department’s new HuntFish app, which replaces previous versions that are no longer operational.

Once purchased, the Wild Turkey Stamp or Exempt Turkey Game Check will be available in the HuntFish app within 48 hours, under the ‘Licenses & Draw Applications’ or ‘My Purchases’ section on the web. Each hunter receives three game checks per season, one for each turkey legally harvested.

Harvests must be reported in the app before moving the bird from the harvest site. Digital game checks via mobile devices are fully legal, and physical tags are only available at in-person vendors. These tags must be notched and attached to the turkey’s leg prior to transport and reported to the department by 10 p.m. on the day of harvest.
