Mississippi woman sentenced to 30 years for attempted murder and assault
Gillespie, 34, of Iuka, Mississippi, was sentenced Thursday after pleading guilty to attempted murder and aggravated assault related to incidents in Prentiss County.
On April 8, 2026, Circuit Court Judge Kelly Mims sentenced Gillespie to 40 years in the Mississippi Department of Corrections for attempted murder, with 10 years suspended. She is expected to serve 30 years.
Gillespie also pleaded guilty to a November 2022 aggravated assault. She received a 20-year sentence, with 20 years suspended, to run consecutively to her attempted murder sentence.
The District Attorney’s Office credited Detective Karl Courtney of the Booneville Police Department for his investigation. The cases were prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Joel Baldwin and Reagan Wise, according to a news release from the district attorney’s office.
Jason D. Herring, district attorney for the First Circuit Court District, announced the sentences.
