Northeast Mississippi Community College honors Britney Whitley with Northeast Way Award

Britney Whitley, assistant vice president of the Student Success Center at Northeast Mississippi Community College, has been named this month’s recipient of the Northeast Way Award.

The award recognizes individuals who foster a positive and welcoming environment within the college community. According to her nomination, Whitley has demonstrated patience and encouragement while navigating challenges related to new digital platforms, graduation pathway requirements, and financial aid protocols.

During a period of adjustment, colleagues noted that Whitley provided more than answers—she offered support and kindness. One colleague recalled telling her, “I want to say thank you for being so patient and helpful with all of our questions. I’m sure it has to be a lot,” to which Whitley responded, “Well, that’s my job.”

Her compassionate leadership extends beyond staff to students. The nominator said students often leave the Success Center visibly grateful and with lighter burdens, attributing this to Whitley’s efforts.

Colleagues say her leadership leaves a lasting impression, describing her as a good leader, a positive presence, and someone who makes others feel supported. One added, “I can genuinely say I feel more prepared to do this job knowing Britney has all of our backs.”
