Prentiss County sets April 22 deadline for storm debris pickup
Prentiss County officials have announced that April 22, 2026, will be the final day residents can place storm-related vegetative debris at the roadside for pickup. The deadline applies to limbs, branches, and other natural materials caused by the recent storm, county officials said.
In accordance with FEMA regulations, construction materials, household garbage, and debris unrelated to storm damage will not be collected. Any ineligible debris left at the roadside after the deadline will be the responsibility of the resident to remove and dispose of.
County officials emphasized that debris must be placed on the public right-of-way by the end of April 22 to be eligible for pickup. Residents are advised to keep debris close to the road without blocking traffic or drainage, and to keep it away from mailboxes, utility poles, and fire hydrants. Debris should be strictly vegetative and storm-related.
As of now, approximately 304,000 cubic yards of storm debris has been collected, with cleanup ongoing. County officials urged residents to be cautious of debris contractors working along roads and highways. They thanked the public for their cooperation as the county works to complete the cleanup efforts.
David “Bubba” Pounds, Prentiss County Chancery Clerk, encouraged residents to adhere to the pickup deadline and debris placement guidelines. For more information, residents can contact the county office at (662) 728-8151 or visit the Prentiss County website.
