Severe Weather, Flash Flooding Possible in Mid-South Today

The National Weather Service in Memphis, Tennessee, is monitoring multiple hazards for the region today. Forecasters warn of possible severe weather and flash flooding starting this afternoon and continuing into the overnight hours.

There is still uncertainty about the severity and timing of the storms, but forecasters suggest there could be two rounds of thunderstorms. Both rounds may bring damaging wind gusts and heavy rainfall capable of flash flooding, according to NWS officials.

In addition to weather threats, the Mid-South will experience high temperatures, with most areas reaching the low to mid-90s. Heat index values are expected to exceed 100 degrees across nearly the entire region, with some locations in eastern Arkansas and the Mississippi Delta potentially surpassing 105 degrees, the NWS said.

Residents are urged to stay alert and monitor weather updates throughout the day. Authorities advise taking precautions against both severe storms and heat-related illnesses.
