An official audit has identified hundreds of millions of dollars in waste across Mississippi’s state government. The investigation uncovered issues ranging from unnecessary spending on TV screens costing up to $5,800 each to high fees on vehicle tags.
Auditors also found that Mississippi residents pay the second-highest car tag fees in the nation. They argued that if taxpayers are shouldering some of the highest costs, the money should be directed toward essential services such as education, law enforcement, and infrastructure.
