51 Inmates Graduate from Parchman’s Reentry Academy, Marking a Step Toward New Beginnings

Fifty-one inmates at the Mississippi State Penitentiary have graduated from the Unit 25 Reentry Academy, a program aimed at equipping incarcerated individuals with the skills needed to reenter society successfully.

The graduation ceremony took place in Unit 30’s chapel, celebrating the personal growth and resilience of participants. The Unit 25 program is part of a larger statewide initiative that has seen nearly 800 graduates over the past two years.

The Reentry Academy focuses on life skills, education, and personal development to reduce recidivism and promote long-term success after release.

Keynote speaker Stacy Dodd, a former inmate turned mentor, shared his own journey and encouraged graduates to stay committed to positive change.

Warden Patricia Doty applauded the class for their perseverance, noting the significant transformations many had made during the program. The ceremony also recognized the leadership of Warden Doty, Deputy Commissioner Kelley Christopher, and the dedicated Unit 25 team — including Correctional Team Lead Chiquita Jones, Case Manager Linda Collins, and Academic Teacher Kimberly Meeks.

Deputy Commissioner Christopher praised the academy as a model for rehabilitation and a testament to the power of second chances.

The graduates now join a growing number of returning citizens working to rebuild their lives and contribute meaningfully to their communities.
