Columbus Man Arrested on Shooting and Drug Charges Following Police Raid
COLUMBUS, Miss. – A Columbus man is in custody following his arrest in connection with a recent shooting and the discovery of multiple firearms and illegal narcotics at his residence.
On Thursday, August 21, 2025, the Columbus Police Department’s VIPER team, working alongside the Criminal Investigations Division (CID), executed an arrest warrant for Frederick D. Washington Jr. Officers also carried out a search warrant at his home, where they recovered weapons and a significant quantity of drugs.
Authorities reported the seized narcotics included approximately 3.2 pounds of marijuana, 38.39 grams of cocaine, 13.53 grams of crack cocaine, and 33.71 grams of MDMA.
Washington is facing the following charges:
- Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon
- Nine counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance with a Weapon Enhancement
The charges stem from a shooting that occurred earlier this month in the 1400 block of 20th Street North, where one man was injured.
Columbus Police Chief Joseph Daughtry said the arrest underscores the department’s commitment to tackling violent crime.
“This arrest highlights our department’s continued focus on removing violent offenders and illegal narcotics from our streets,” Chief Daughtry stated. “We remain committed to protecting our community through proactive and strategic enforcement.”
