Shooting Reported on Alcorn State University Campus
UPDATE: 1 dead and two injured from shooting.
LORMAN, Miss. — Alcorn State University officials have issued an emergency alert after a shooting was reported on campus Saturday evening.
In a statement from the Alcorn State University Campus Police Department, students and staff were urged to take immediate safety precautions:
“A shooting has been reported on campus. If you are on campus, seek shelter immediately. Do not leave your secure location until given an all clear by Campus Police. More information will be provided as it becomes available. For emergencies, call Campus Police at 601-877-3000.”
As of this time, university officials have not released details about potential injuries, suspects, or locations involved. The campus remains under a shelter-in-place order while police investigate.
Alcorn State University, located in Lorman, Mississippi, is a historically Black land-grant institution about 80 miles southwest of Jackson. Founded in 1871, it is one of the oldest historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) in the United States and is known for its strong academic programs and spirited athletic tradition.
Authorities are urging everyone in the area to stay away from campus until an official “all clear” is issued. Further updates will be released as information becomes available.
