MEMA Warns of Dangerous Fire Weather for Mississippians Statewide
Mississippians across the state are at risk of encountering dangerous conditions for fire, and Mississippi Emergency Management Agency wants to ensure that residents are taking precaution.
According to a press release from Mississippi Emergency Management Agency, due to extremely dry weather conditions and little to no rain, a risk of dangerous fire conditions exists across the entirety of Mississippi.
These conditions mean that fires, even small ones, are at an elevated risk for burning out of control and escalating into much larger fires before they can be contained safely.
MEMA discourages Mississippi residents from open burning, and to heed the advice of local authorities when burn bans are enacted. In addition, drivers are cautioned to make sure that trailer chains are not dragging on roadways.
Finally, smokers are highly encouraged to dispose of cigarettes properly, and not to throw the butts on the ground.
