Suspicious Device Prompts Evacuations in Downtown Booneville

A bomb scare near a homeschool co-op in downtown Booneville prompted a multi-agency response on Wednesday. Authorities were called to an alley between Market and Church streets after a suspicious object resembling a pipe bomb was discovered.

The Mississippi News Group was the first with the information here.

The Tupelo Police Bomb Squad, Booneville Police Department, Homeland Security, and emergency management officials responded to the scene. Nearby areas were evacuated as a precaution while the device was investigated.

Officials later determined the object was harmless, and normal activity resumed in the area.
