Editorial Standards
Alcorn County News covers Corinth and Alcorn County, Mississippi. These are the standards we hold our reporting to.
Accuracy
Every factual claim traces to an identified source. We name people and their titles rather than attributing information to “officials.” When we cannot confirm a detail, we leave it out or say plainly that it is unconfirmed.
Sourcing
We report from primary sources wherever possible: public meetings, court and agency records, public officials, and the people directly involved in a story. When we build on another outlet’s reporting, we credit and link to it. We link to source documents so readers can check our work.
Use of technology
We use software tools to help monitor public agency feeds and to assist with drafting. An editor reviews each article before publication and is responsible for its accuracy. We do not publish generated text without human review.
Independence
Our coverage is not influenced by advertisers. Advertising is clearly distinguished from editorial content, and sponsored content is labeled as such.
Bylines
Articles carry the name of the person responsible for the reporting and verification. Author pages list how to reach them.
Corrections
We correct errors promptly and note the correction on the article. To report an error, email editor@alcornnewsms.com with the article link, the detail at issue and any supporting source material.
