Fewer deer sightings this season linked to weather and food availability

Hunters may have noticed fewer deer sightings this season, and experts say there are biological reasons for the trend. Warmer-than-normal temperatures and an abundant acorn crop can reduce daytime deer movement, according to wildlife officials.

When natural food sources are plentiful, deer do not need to travel as far or as often for feeding. This results in fewer visible deer, even though overall populations remain stable, officials noted.

Despite fewer sightings, deer harvests are still necessary to maintain balanced populations and healthy habitats. Lower visibility does not indicate a decline in deer numbers but reflects changes in movement patterns and food distribution.

As the season progresses and food availability decreases, deer are expected to move more actively. Wildlife officials emphasize that continued hunter participation remains vital for effective deer management.
