Ice on roads reported in 14 Mississippi counties, MDOT warns motorists

Ice has been reported on roads and bridges in 14 Mississippi counties as of 8:30 a.m. Sunday, according to the Mississippi Department of Transportation. The agency’s report covers state-maintained roadways, including interstates and highways, but does not include local roads.

The affected counties are Alcorn, Benton, Bolivar, Coahoma, DeSoto, Lafayette, Leflore, Marshall, Panola, Quitman, Tallahatchie, Tate, Tippah and Tunica. MDOT urges motorists to avoid travel in affected areas unless necessary and to exercise extreme caution if they must drive.

MDOT also requests drivers give space to snowplow and maintenance crews working to clear the roads during this winter event. For live updates on road conditions, travelers are encouraged to download the MDOT Traffic app or visit MDOTtraffic.com.

Authorities emphasized safety and advised drivers to stay informed as winter weather continues to impact the region.
