Mississippi braces for frigid temperatures; safety tips issued

Mississippi residents are preparing for another cold night as temperatures are expected to fall into the teens and single digits in some areas, according to the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency.

The agency has issued safety tips for those using space heaters to stay warm. Recommendations include placing heaters on a solid, flat surface, keeping them at least three feet away from flammable objects, and inspecting cords and plugs for damage.

Officials advise plugging heaters directly into wall outlets and avoiding extension cords or power strips to prevent fire hazards. They also encourage residents to check on family, friends, and neighbors during cold weather.

The agency emphasizes staying warm and safe during the cold snap, urging residents to follow safety protocols and remain vigilant.
