Mississippi Continues Disaster Relief Efforts Amid Winter Storm

Mississippi counties affected by winter weather continue to request supplies including meals, water, cots, blankets, and generators. As of 8 a.m. Sunday, 41 counties had made 662 requests, according to the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency.

The agency, with assistance from the National Guard, has distributed more than 275,800 bottles of water, 93,400 meals, nearly 4,800 blankets, close to 2,000 cots, and over 4,300 tarps to impacted areas.

Efforts to restore power are ongoing. As of 10:30 a.m. Sunday, approximately 57,600 outages remain, with additional power coming online every hour. Thousands of linemen continue working around the clock to repair lines and restore service.

Currently, 53 generators are installed at critical infrastructure sites. As power is restored, some generators are being relocated to other locations where they are needed most, officials said.
