Mississippi Emergency Management Agency Addresses Winter Storm Questions

The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) has received numerous inquiries about the ongoing winter storm in January 2026. The agency directs the public to its website for information on the emergency declaration, ways to volunteer, and how to report storm-related damage, according to a statement.

MEMA clarified that generators sent to counties are designated for essential operations, including hospitals, water treatment facilities, and emergency services. The agency emphasized that these generators are not available for individual or residential use. Additionally, MEMA will not reimburse residents who purchase generators for storm-related needs, officials said.

The agency also provided resources on winter weather preparedness, including creating emergency kits and information about shelters and safe rooms. Updates from officials, including a press conference by Governor Tate Reeves on January 25 and 26, are available on YouTube. MEMA Deputy Director Todd DeMuth also offered guidance on storm response and safety measures.
