Mississippi extends tax deadline for 49 counties amid disaster recovery

The governor of Mississippi signed a proclamation extending the deadline for residents in 49 counties to submit ad valorem taxes to county tax collectors. The new deadline is set for March 3, 2026, and fines for late payments are postponed.

The impacted counties include Adams, Alcorn, Attala, Benton, Bolivar, Calhoun, Carroll, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Claiborne, Clarke, Clay, Coahoma, DeSoto, Grenada, Hinds, Holmes, Humphreys, Itawamba, Jefferson, Lafayette, Leake, Leflore, Lowndes, Marshall, Monroe, Montgomery, Newton, Oktibbeha, Panola, Pontotoc, Prentiss, Quitman, Rankin, Smith, Sharkey, Sunflower, Tallahatchie, Tate, Tippah, Tishomingo, Tunica, Union, Warren, Washington, Webster, Wilkinson, Yalobusha and Yazoo, according to the proclamation.

The move aims to assist residents and local governments in the aftermath of recent events. Officials have not specified the reason for the extension but emphasized the importance of providing relief to affected communities.
