Mississippi Frog Season Opens April 1st with Limits in Place
During warm spring and summer nights, bullfrogs can be heard bellowing in ditches, swamps, rice fields, and ponds across Mississippi, according to wildlife officials.
The tradition of catching frogs during hot summer evenings has been a part of Southern culture for many years. While some hunters succeed during daytime, most prefer nighttime outings using flashlights.
Froggers typically use long fishing poles with small treble hooks or gigs, but some choose to stealthily approach and catch frogs by hand. The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks states that frog season runs from April 1st through September 30th, with a daily limit of 25 frogs.
