Church in Alcorn County suffers major damage due to Sunday storm
KOSSUTH, Miss. — Pleasant Hill United Pentecostal Church near Kossuth reported significant damage to its church building after severe storms moved through the area Sunday evening, March 15, 2026.
In a statement shared after the storm, the church said its building “sustained significant damage,” but added that everyone is safe. Church leaders said they are now assessing the damage and determining next steps, while asking for prayers for their church family.
The damage came as severe weather affected northeast Mississippi on Sunday. The National Weather Service listed Alcorn County under a tornado watch until 11 p.m. March 15, and forecast points near Kossuth showed both tornado and severe thunderstorm warnings during the evening as storms moved through the area.
Forecast information for Alcorn County warned that some thunderstorms Sunday night could be severe, with locally heavy rainfall, strong winds, and gusts up to 35 mph behind the storm system.
Pleasant Hill United Pentecostal Church said it plans to provide more updates as the situation develops.
