Corinth Woman Receives Life in Prison for Capital Murder of Two Year Old
A twenty five year old woman received a sentence of life in prison for the tragic 2022 murder of a two year old child.
Makallie Elizabeth Durham, of Corinth, pled guilty on Friday, December 13th, 2024 to capital murder and four counts of felonious child abuse.
According to a press release from First Circuit District Attorney’s Office, Durham’s charges and guilty plea stem from September 2022, when a two year old child under Durham’s care was murdered. An eleven month old child, the sibling of the two year old, also sustained injuries that were non-life-threatening.
The injuries that both children sustained were determined to not be accidental.
Circuit Judge Michael P. Mills, Jr. sentenced Durham to the maximum punishment. Durham received a sentence of life in prison for the murder, in addition to forty years for the child abuse.
Durham will never be eligible for parole or any other form of release from her incarceration.
Assistant District Attorneys Kyle Robbins and Clay Cummings prosecuted the case. The Alcorn County Sheriff’s Office responded to and investigated the case.
