Corinth Angel Tree Applications Due Friday at Salvation Army
Families who need help providing Christmas gifts for their children this year have only a few days to act. Corinth Angel Tree applications must be turned in to the Salvation Army of Corinth & Alcorn County by Friday, Oct. 9, at 3 p.m., according to the Daily Corinthian.
Application packets are available now at the Salvation Army’s Corinth office, 2200 Lackey Drive. Completed applications must be returned to that office before the Friday afternoon deadline.
Corinth Angel Tree applications: key details
- What: Salvation Army Angel Tree Christmas assistance for local children
- Where to get and return packets: The Salvation Army, 2200 Lackey Drive, Corinth
- Deadline: Friday, Oct. 9, 3 p.m.
- Who it serves: local families in Corinth and Alcorn County who need help with Christmas
Families should pick up a packet as early in the week as possible. That leaves time to gather any paperwork the office asks for before the deadline. Salvation Army Angel Tree programs usually ask parents or guardians to show identification, proof of the children in the household, and proof of household income and residency. Ask the Corinth office exactly what it requires when you pick up your packet.
How the Angel Tree program works
Angel Tree is one of the Salvation Army’s best-known Christmas programs. After families are approved, each child becomes an “angel,” usually listed on a paper tag with a first name, age, clothing sizes, and a few wish-list items. The tags hang on Angel Tree displays around the community, where individuals, churches, businesses, and civic groups “adopt” an angel and buy the gifts.
Shoppers return the gifts to the Salvation Army, which then distributes them to registered families before Christmas. In past seasons the Corinth Salvation Army has thanked local families who adopted angels, and it has said that providing food boxes to Angel Tree families was made possible by community support.
Ways the community can help
When applications close, the focus shifts to finding sponsors. Residents who want to help this season can:
- Watch for Angel Tree tags once they are posted and adopt a child or two
- Call or visit the Lackey Drive office to ask about group or business sponsorships
- Volunteer for the Red Kettle campaign, which helps pay for the Salvation Army’s local holiday and year-round services
- Follow The Salvation Army Corinth Mississippi on Facebook for updates on when tags are available and when gifts are due
Helping a family now means a child in Alcorn County has something to open on Christmas morning. If your family needs help, don’t wait until Friday afternoon to pick up a packet.
