Cold front brings rain, thunderstorms to region; cooler weather expected

Rain and a few thunderstorms are expected to move through the region today as a cold front arrives, according to weather forecasts.

Up to an inch of rain is possible in North Mississippi, but officials say it will not be sufficient to improve ongoing drought conditions.

Much cooler air is set to arrive for the second half of the weekend, bringing relief from the recent warm temperatures, the National Weather Service said.
