IRS grants Mississippi tax relief following winter storm

The Internal Revenue Service announced tax relief for Mississippi taxpayers affected by a severe winter storm that struck the state in January.

Taxpayers in Mississippi now have until June 8, 2026, to file and pay individual income, corporate income, franchise, pass-through entity, and quarterly estimated tax payments originally due during the disaster period.

The extension follows federal relief granted to victims of Winter Storm Fern, which occurred on Jan. 23, 2026, according to the IRS. Taxpayers who receive penalty notices should contact the Mississippi Department of Revenue at (601) 923-7700 for abatement. The department will also work with taxpayers outside Mississippi if their records or tax professionals are located in the disaster area.

The relief does not automatically apply to other tax types or prior liabilities. Case-by-case relief may be available for affected taxpayers. Those needing an extension are encouraged to contact the department at the provided phone number.
